Clear Braces

invisalign are called clear braces, but are actually clear aligners and not really bracesClear braces are a popular option for adults and teens. Invisalign® clear aligners offer not only virtually invisible orthodontics, but also they are removable for easy tooth and appliance cleaning, eating foods that are not good for braces, and for important moments like school pictures or prom. Invisalign® straightens your teeth using a series of polymer plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into perfect alignment. This innovative clear braces option to traditional metal braces requires absolutely no metal brackets or wires and no elastic bands making them very comfortable. Plus, the orthodontic adjustments are built into successive aligners or trays so you have fewer trips to the orthodontist.

How Invisalign Clear Braces Work

Invisalign® aligners are custom made for each patient using 3-D computer imaging technology. Each set of aligners are worn for approximately 2 weeks allowing removal only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Each aligner is replaced with the next in the series as your teeth gradually and gently straighten and move to the final position. Your Invisalign® orthodontic visits are scheduled every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing and your desired smile is starting to show. The total treatment time varies, ranging from 9 to 15 months, depending on the severity of tooth movement prescribed treatment plan.

Compliance is the biggest challenge for Invisalign wearers. Not wearing your clear braces long enough each day will delay orthodontic progress as it is important that each series of trays be worn approximately 2 weeks for 22+ hours per day. The makers of these clear aligners have provided a product called Invisalign Teen to assist those less likely to fully comply. The aligners have a column of small blue dots that fade the longer the aligners are worn. If it is time to change the aligners, but the blue dots are still visible, the clear braces are not being worn long enough to do their job.

Another popular option that some people with mild orthodontic issues is Invisalign Express. This abbreviated treatment plan uses the same high quality clear aligners and state-of-the-art 3D treatment plan, but because it is used in less complex cases, a 5 sets of aligners achieve the desired smile in 3 months or less.
