Invisalign® to Straighten Your Smile
Dr. David Bright uses Invisalign to help the many adults he meets who wish they had straighter, more aligned teeth. Some of these patients wore braces when they were younger, but have seen their teeth rotate or fall out of alignment in the years since.
Others may have never undergone orthodontic treatment and now wish for a straight smile.
Dr. Bright proudly offers Invisalign®, a revolutionary alternative to traditional metal braces with brackets, wires, and elastic bands.
This treatment foregoes metal brackets and uncomfortable wires in favor of clear acrylic aligners that gently move the teeth into place.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that replaces the uncomfortable and unsightly metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. The innovative clear acrylic aligners gently guide teeth into their correct position.
Invisalign eliminates the need to visit our office every month for uncomfortable wire tightening appointments. While certain foods become forbidden with traditional braces for fear of pulling a bracket loose or breaking a wire, patients can remove their Invisalign aligners for eating allowing them to eat anything they want.
Removable aligners also make cleaning teeth much easier. With no bands or wires required, patients no longer have to worry about cuts to the inside of their mouth. While traditional braces require a minimum of two years’ treatment time, the average Invisalign treatment lasts only 12 to 18 months.
Most patients find the biggest advantage to be the virtual invisibility of the aligners, meaning nobody has to know they have them in except the orthodontist.
Candidates for Invisalign
The advent of Invisalign treatment means that adults now have an orthodontic option that does not adversely affect their professional appearance. Dr. Bright treats many adult patients with Invisalign, including some who wore traditional braces as teens.
Invisalign aligners help fix several common dental problems and malocclusion, such as overbite corrections, underbite treatment, and crooked or rotated teeth. The aligner system work wonders for patients who wish to close spaces between teeth, even if other teeth have shifted and moved into those spaces.
Invisalign products don’t only help adults, however. In fact, the makers developed a treatment program specifically for teenagers, called Invisalign Teen.
The program offers the same benefits as the adult plan with a few unique additions aimed at helping teenagers stay on track with the treatment plan. The aligners in the Invisalign® Teen program have blue dots that fades the longer teens wear them.
If the blue dots remain when they finish with an aligner, they have not stayed compliant with their plan and the effectiveness of the treatment plan is at risk.
Invisalign Teen also includes six free bonus aligners with the program because they realize that teenagers tend to forget things and misplace important items. So if your child accidentally leaves his aligner on his bed and the dog eats it or loses one at band camp, you can call our office and we will order a replacement at no charge.
Invisalign Express is a cost-effective option for patients with simple, minor crowding or tooth alignment issues. Not only is this abbreviated orthodontic treatment plan less expensive than full Invisalign, it also takes only about 3 months to complete.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
The Invisalign process starts with a consultation with Dr. Bright. He will discuss the Invisalign treatment with you and answer any questions you have. When you both agree that Invisalign® offers the best solution for you, the doctor will schedule a second appointment to take digital images of your mouth. These images are fed into the Invisalign® software.
The software processes the images and creates a custom treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. The plan will outline how many sets of retainers you will need to wear and how long your treatment will last.
Most patients wear the aligners for 12 to 18 months, but treatment time may vary. Dr. Bright will forward your treatment plan to an Invisalign lab, where technicians will use it to create aligners just for you and your future smile.
When your aligners arrive in our office, you will return for another visit. Dr. Bright will give you your first sets of aligners along with instructions for their use and care.
Over the course of the treatment, you will wear 20 to 30 sets of aligners for two weeks each. Aligners must remain in your mouth for 20 to 22 hours a day to stay compliant with your treatment plan. You should only remove them for eating and cleaning your teeth. Failure to follow these parameters may result in longer treatment time.
You will receive three sets of aligners at a time. You will return to see Dr. Bright every six weeks for a quick checkup and to receive your next set of aligners.
When you successfully complete your course of treatment, Dr. Bright will provide you with a retainer to wear. This retainer helps keep your straightened teeth in their new places, so your beautiful new smile will last.
